Ranking
System
1.
Purpose of the Namibian National Rankings
a.
The main purpose of the Namibian National Rakings is to provide a
fair indication of the current strength of the active player base
within the country.
b.
Provide a seeding list for tournaments
c.
Provide a base list for selecting a group to be invited to trials to
select Invitational and National Teams to represent Namibia
d.
Provide a list for selecting a group to be invited to take part in
the National Top 16 tournaments.
2.
Rankings System Base Information
a.
Rankings will be published on the first working day of every month.
The rankings will be published on the NSA website and emailed to the
chairpersons of all NSA affiliated clubs.
b.
Rankings will reflect the club affiliation of a player and the
Nationality of a player.
c.
All Squash players with Namibian Citizenship, Namibian Permanent
Residence or Temporary Residence who are residing in Namibia qualify
for the Namibian rankings. The player needs to be resident in
Namibia for a minimum of 3 months during the rankings period.
Players with proof that they will reside in Namibia for the minimum
of 3 months become eligible on arrival.
d.
The ranking system is based heavily upon the current PSA Mens’ World
Rankings System.
e.
The rankings year will run over 12 consecutive months, thus the
rankings published on 1 April 2009 will be for points obtained in
tournaments in the period 1 April 2008 to 31 March 2009. Even if
there should be more than 1 tournament in any given month, the
rankings will only be changed and published on the 1st
working day of the next month.
f.
Only tournaments affect the rankings. No league matches,
challenge matches, club championship matches or masters event
matches will have any effect on the rankings.
g.
The main tournaments that will form the backbone of the rankings
will be:
i.
Namibian Open
ii.
Namibian Closed
iii.
Top 16’s
h.
Even if there could quite possibly be more than 2 Top 16 tournaments
in a 12 month cycle, only the last two Top 16 tournaments will be
included for points.
3.
Tournament Qualification
a.
Apart from the four events mentioned in 2g, any other tournament may
become part of the rankings points system. Tournaments will however
be graded according to various categories. These categories include:
i.
Accessibility – Is the tournament available to all players in
Namibia, the players in a certain region, but spanning more than one
club, only (ie Windhoek Closed) or is it a closed event for the
members of one club only.
ii.
Draw size – The more players participating in a tournament, the more
difficult the event becomes and thus the more points wild be
allocated to it.
b.
Current Tournament Grading will allow for:
i.
Platinum Event - Maximum of 18600
Points
ii.
Gold Event - Maximum of 12500 Points
iii.
Silver Event - Maximum of 10000 Points
iv.
Bronze Event - Maximum of 7500 Points
v.
5 Star Event - Maximum of 4000 Points
vi.
4 Star Event - Maximum of 3200 Points
vii.
3 Star Event - Maximum of 2400 Points
viii.
2 Star Event - Maximum of 1600 Points
ix.
1 Star Event - Maximum of 800 Points
c.
Should the situation warrant it, a Star tournament may be upgraded
or downgraded to a “.5” tournament, ie a 2.5 Star or a 1.5 Star
event. In such an instance the points available for such a
tournament will be the 50% mean between the two relevant stars, thus
a 2.5 Star event will be allocated 2000 points.
d.
Should a tournament have a n A and a B section, the A section will
be deemed more prestigious than the B section and the points grading
will reflect this. However, there still remains the possibility that
the winner of the B section may obtain more points than the last
position in the A section. In such an event, the following formula
will apply:
i.
The 1.5 x the points difference between the normal B Section
winner allocation and the normal A Section last place will be added
to every player in the A Section. Thus, if the winner in the a
Section is to receive 400 points, but the last position in the A
Section is to receive only 350 points, 75 points will be added to
EVERY player in the A section, thus allocating 425 points to the
last position in the A section.
e.
Should not all the players in a section of a draw be eligible for
point on the Namibian rankings, those points will be cancelled. The
eligible players will however still receive the points they would
have gained for their position. Thus, the winner and runner up are
foreign players. They were to receive 1800 and 1200 points
respectively. The third placed player is eligible for ranking points
and was to receive 700 points due to positioning. The 1800 and 1200
points fall away, but the 700 points for third place will still be
awarded.
f.
Organizers of tournaments have to apply for ranking point
status before the event and the grading options (indicating what the
grading would be for the various possible draw sizes) must be
included on all advertisements for the event.
g.
The average points obtained by a player will generate the ranking
position. However, a minimum number of tournaments will apply. The
following will be the defined dividers:
i.
1 to 6 Tournaments - 5
ii.
7 to 8 Tournaments - 7
iii.
9 to 11 Tournaments - 9
iv.
More than 11 - Number of
tournaments – 2, minimum of 11 as divider, thus for 12 and 13
tournaments, the divider will be 11.
h.
A player may participate in as many tournaments that qualify for
ranking points as he/she chooses.
i.
Tournament organizers have to provide full results of any
qualifying tournament to the NSA Exco within 48 hours after
completion of the tournament.
j.
